Andrew Sheldon
My paintings reflect physical and emotional landscapes.
Although I experiment with many styles — from detailed portraits to large format abstracts — I return often to painting the place I’ve called home for nearly twenty-five years: the Olympic Peninsula. I don’t think I could ever exhaust the many quirky angles, sweeping vistas, intimate corners, and ever-changing light this region provides.
I am currently focused on both large format (3 ft x 4 ft, 5 ft x 5 ft) landscapes and postcard-sized floral and village studies. I paint in acrylics. My style is a marriage of realism and impressionism. I’m self-taught and was heavily influenced by legendary Port Townsend painter Jim Alden, as well as current Hudson Valley artist Stephen E Lewis, with whom I’ve studied. Back in the day, I wrote lyrics and raged on stage while Steve played guitar in our DC-based band, Bauls of Bengal.
