Nancy A. Aikman

My story begins….surprisingly, after a life-long career as an accountant. I found myself drawn to a new passion – Pine Needle Basketry – the world of Southern Long Leaf Pine Needles, semi-precious stone cabochons, glass beads, and other natural elements – nothing man-made or dyed, except for the traditional Irish Waxed Linen Thread. Shed deer antlers, bone beads, recycled glass, and metals are a few of the materials I incorporate into my creations.

Each of us has stories to be told as life takes you on different journeys. I found mine in expressing my connection and respect for nature. Stones and minerals come in a multitude of colors and patterns. Every piece is unique. I particularly search for patterns in the stone cabochons that will lend themselves to an interesting basket design and to complement them together. When complete, the piece can find its place – belonging to one special individual. When they display it, the feeling will be that it has always been meant to be there.

Everything is made locally here in my home studio in Port Ludlow, Washington. I also work on custom orders and will consult with you and help with any questions or ideas you may have.
